James Holmes Obituary

James Glyn Holmes, 57, of Corvallis passed away Wednesday March 20, 2024 of health complications surrounded by family at St. Patrick’s Hospital. James was born December 1, 1966 in Hamilton, Montana to Richard G. Holmes and Rita D. Menager.

James (known then as Jamie) was raised in Corvallis and graduated from Corvallis High School in 1985. He married his high school sweetheart Ramelle Owen on December 12, 1986 in Corvallis. They started their life together in Florida in 1985 right after high school, where James began a career of custom residential and commercial construction including 10 years of self employment as ‘Homes by Holmes.’

James’ hobbies showed his 3 biggest passions in life- the outdoors, family, and tomfoolery. James loved to go hunting and fishing. In recent years, most weekends were spent camping and riding side-by-side through the mountains showing his family all the things he loved about our great state and especially, the Bitterroot Valley and Big Hole Valley. James was well known for having a big smile, dry sense of humor, and always going out of his way to help or check in with others. He loved to play pranks and joke around, often putting on a gruff exterior only broken by a mischievous twinkle in his eye. His granddaughters were constantly heard saying, “Papa’s a teaser!” He was constantly stirring the pot (just check his Facebook posts and comments), sometimes just to poke the bear and get a reaction, but he also would tell us that it was how he would learn and consider new perspectives.

James is preceded in death by his parents Rich and Rita Holmes, brother Steve Holmes, nephew Justin Holmes, grandparents Pershing Menager and Donna Hosko and beloved pets Pippin and Chalco.

James is survived by his eternal companion and sweetheart Ramelle; children (spouses) - Nicole (Steve) Jessop, Josh Holmes, and Kaylie (Brayden) Winterton; 6 granddaughters who were the whole world to him, Aunt Judy Johnson, pets Taz and Meika, in-laws Frank and Marge Owen, and loving extended family members.

Funeral services will be Thursday, March 28 at 4:00 pm at Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton with Bishop Cody Edwards officiating.  Casual dress is welcome.

Reception to follow from 5:00-7:00 pm with food (as James frequently was heard saying, “very delicious and desirable to the taste”), laughter, memories, and the best of 80’s rock music.

Private interment will be in the Corvallis Cemetery. Pallbearers are Josh Holmes, Steve Jessop, Brayden Winterton, James Pope, Kevin Frost, John Clements, Lynn Seamons and Darren Owen. Honorary Pallbearers are Braelynn Jessop, Addy Jessop, Jaymie Jessop, Lyanna Jessop, Neva Winterton, and Ellie Winterton.

The family suggests that memorials be made to the Bitterroot Humane Society, Emma’s House, the SAFE house, or the Linda Massa Youth Home.
