James M. Macedo
April 8, 1947 ~ December 19, 2023 (age 76) 76 Years Old
James M. Macedo was born April 8, 1947, in San Leandro, California, the only child of Joseph (Joe) and Mildred (Millie) Macedo. He passed away quietly with his loving family by his side on December 19, 2023.
Jim began his lifelong passion of service as a young child, going with his mother to volunteer at various charity organizations she belonged to. He continued this work by joining the service and later the police force where he served for over 32 years. Throughout Jim’s life, he found joy in helping those in need which was evident in his service to his family, community, friends & neighbors. Jim loved to travel and was always eager to take trips to various countries around the world with his family and friends.
Jim was raised in San Leandro, California, and graduated from St. Elizabeth High School in Oakland, and went on to attend classes at the University of San Francisco and Chabot College in Hayward while serving in the United States Marine Corps (Active Reserves) until he was honorably discharged as a Seargeant in 1972. In 1968 he joined the University of California Berkeley Campus Police Department and embarked on his career of service in that police force until he retired as Seargent of Police in 2001. During those years as an officer, Jim would work many long hours, was involved in leading the Narcotics Law Enforcement Task Force, and was dedicated to being a mentor to other younger officers. Additionally, he would often attend continuing education classes to further his law enforcement education, and eventually taught classes related to law enforcement at Chabot-Las Positas Community College in Pleasanton, California. After Jim retired from the police force in 2001, he first worked as a customer service representative for Delta Airlines in the Oakland, California airport, in the hopes that he could continue to serve his community well and travel the world during his days off. He subsequently spent many years providing security for various companies to include the San Francisco 49ers and the Oakland A’s. His last employment was working for the KTVU Fox 2 News Station, providing security to the news men and women out in the field reporting in various locations in the Bay Area.
Jim is survived by William Hamilton and wife Dana Hamilton, Kendall Mouw and husband Ryan Mouw, to whom he was a father, his three grandchildren, Warren Mouw, Claire Mouw, & Grant Mouw, his longtime love & companion Gail Morgan, his spiritual adviser and confidante Lori King, and numerous friends, and neighbors.
A Celebration of Life (open house) will be held at the Sheffield Village (Jim’s neighborhood of 43 years) Community Center’s Park (247 Marlow Dr, San Leandro, CA 94577) on Saturday April 20th, 2024 from (12/noon to 3pm). The family suggests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Bright Focus Foundation.
