Corvallis – Jerry David Spear, 72 of Corvallis passed away Sunday, December 27, 2020 at the Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital in Hamilton.
Jerry was born March 9, 1948 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Jack and Jacqueline Ash Spear. He was raised and educated in Waldron, IN and graduated from Waldron High School. Jerry worked at the Spears Dairy for his father and grandfather. In 1967, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was medically discharged later that year.
Jerry worked as a clerk for the Indianapolis Police Department until the early 1970’s. Following his father’s death; Jerry decided to come to Montana to attend the Erv Malnarich Guide School to become a hunting outfitter. Jerry was an outfitter from 1972 through the 1980’s, guiding throughout Montana and Idaho. Jerry and his wife Libby loved bird hunting with their Labs.
Jerry later worked in construction doing finish work until he retired. He enjoyed work at and attending gun shows for many years.
He was preceded in death by his son, Christopher and his parents. Jerry is survived by his wife, Libby; son, Scott; and his grandchildren, Dillon and Haile; numerous aunts and cousins.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
The family suggests donations to the Melanoma Research Foundation at melanoma.org or to the Daly Hospital Foundation to raise money for the cancer center.
