HAMILTON – Our beloved Mateo Magnia Chavez, 84, of Hamilton passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2020. He was born March 12, 1936 in Victoria, TX the son of Alfredo and Julia Chavez.
Matt had a loving personality and befriended many people in the Bitterroot Valley. He never forgot anyone or their name. Everyone was a friend to Matt. He loved his family dearly and was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Anytime relatives would visit, Matt would make sure to cook his delicious food and send them home with little treasures.
Matt loved yard sales, Greek food and he loved to dance. He spoke English, Spanish and Greek. Mateo had a heart of gold and we will miss him very much.
Matt was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 1 sister and several nieces and nephews. He is survived by 8 brothers, Alfredo Chavez, Jr. of Corvallis, Joe Chavez of Blackfoot, ID, Ray Chavez of Corvallis, Benny Chavez of Corvallis, Rudy Chavez of Boise, ID, Danny Chavez of Freeport, TX, Tony Chavez of Lubbock, TX and Ted Chavez of Corvallis; 3 sisters, Margaret Davila, Rosemary Purlee and Virginia Furlong all of Corvallis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at 11:00 am the Daly-Leach Chapel with a reception following in the funeral home’s community room. Condolences may be left for the family at www.dalyleachchapel.com.
