Milton Edgar Pomelear, 72, of Hamilton, Montana, known as Ed most of his life, died on November 15, 2020.
He was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 2019, gracefully and stoically undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, which resulted in a PET scan showing no cancer. Sadly, the cancer returned quickly and aggressively, sending Ed into the loving arms of God on a Sunday.
Ed was born on December 30, 1947 in Clayton, New Jersey, first child of Milton Richard & Margarete Pomelear. He graduated from high school and joined the Army at age 20 attaining the rank of First Sergeant while serving in Viet Nam, at the Pentagon and at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Ed and Denise married in 1972 and they had a daughter and a son.
While stationed at the Pentagon, Ed met Carol Guinter at Friendship Methodist Church. They married there on November 13, 1982 and had two sons. An Army assignment took Ed and his family to Fort Clayton, Panama. There Ed and Carol were welcomed into the congregation of Crossroads Bible Church, where they met Christ.
After 20 years serving his country in the Army, Ed retired in 1987. To pursue a new passion, he then attended Columbia Bible College in South Carolina, graduating with a Bachelor's degree. After Bible college, Ed did missionary work with overseas Christian service men's centers.
Montana became Ed's new home in 1996 when he was hired by the Rocky Mountain Bible Mission as mission administrator. In 1998 he began a second career as Pastor of Christ's Bible Church in Hamilton, giving weekly sermons, doing counseling, participating in special programs like God's Girls, and Camp Elohim, and writing & producing the church newsletter. Ed gave his last sermon on Sunday, September 18, after 22 years as the church pastor.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Richard and his wife, Carol.
Survivors are sister, Susan Harker of New Jersey; children, Diane Steen of Georgia; Gregory (Ryan) Pomelear of Maryland; Charles (Amanda) Pomelear of Texas; Richard Pomelear of Missoula; ex-wife Denise Pomelear of Virginia, and sister-in-law, Janet Guinter of Michigan.
