When the family moved to Van Nuys, Ca. he attended Notre Dame High School and later graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a degree in Political Science. On June 18, 1960, while working as a supervisor at IBM, Bob married Sue Carol Ekberg, a registered nurse.

Their son, Jeff, was born in 1961, and daughter Karen in 1963. The couple then moved to Sacramento, Ca. where son Greg was born in 1966. In 1970, Bob and Sue took a huge leap of faith and moved the family to Kailua, Hawaii where they started ChemMark of Hawaii. A chemical company serving the bar and restaurant industry. The family lived in Hawaii until 1981 when Bob sold the company, retired (for the first time), and moved the family to Montana, a state that he and Sue had fallen in love with while on vacation.  They settled in Bozeman where he started another business and began his second career as a nurseryman. The Tree Factory, their nursery/ greenhouse operation is now called Oak Gardens on Nelson Rd. In 2005 he retired for the second time and moved to Hamilton, MT. in the scenic Bitterroot Valley. 10 years later, the couple moved to Stevensville where Bob would spend the rest of his life.
