Susan Alberta (Godfrey) Nelson Shilts

Susan Godfrey Nelson Shilts passed away on March 10, 2023, in Arizona. Susan bravely battled End Stage Renal Disease for 5½ years, she was 74 years old. She was born on May 1, 1948, in Wisconsin to Albert and Leila Godfrey.

Susan was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold Nelson (in 2005); her parents; brother, Frank; and stepchildren, Coby and Fred.

Susan married Ray Shilts, who she later divorced. She then married the love of her life, Harold Nelson, on December 28, 1993, in Arizona. In 2003, they were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple. They made Darby, Montana their home. 

Susan loved being in the mountains, cooking, especially making her cinnamon rolls which were everyone's favorite. She enjoyed helping others with canned food to give to those in need. She liked to sew, watch classic western shows, dance, play games, and do puzzles. She made the best candy for all her children at Christmas. She was the best caregiver to all the wild animals that came to visit and worked hard her whole life.

Susan recently moved to Arizona to live near her brother, Dennis and his wife Shellie, to get away from the cold.

Susan is survived by one daughter, Veronica Shilts; 4 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 6 brothers, Walt (Dorothy deceased), David (Cheryl), Seth (Dian), Hershel (Diane), Alvin, and Dennis (Shellie); and 2 sisters, Shirley (George) and Harriet (Rex). When she married Harold Nelson she became Gr Sue to Harold's 5 children, Raylene & Coby (deceased) Smith, Fred (deceased) and his wife Arlene of Darby, Lynn Nelson of Hamilton, Brad and Linda Nelson Darby, Chris and Dale Petersen of Darby.  She has 15 grandkids, 24 great grands and 10.5 great great grandkids; and many nieces and nephews that loved her so much. 

Funeral services will be on at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 25, 2023, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Darby with Brother Carl Mouritsen officiating. Burial will follow in the Lone Pine Cemetery, in Darby. Condolences may be left for the family at www.dalyleachchapel.com
