Virginia "Ginny" C. (Young) Rose

June 21, 1944 — September 3, 2022

Virginia (Ginny) Y. Rose,78, of Corvallis passed away Saturday, September 2, 2022 at St. Pat’s hospital after a 22 year cancer battle. She was born June 21, 1944 in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of Walter W. and Clare (Heilig) Young.

She was raised in Owasso, Michigan and moved to Billings, Montana where she was in the first graduating class of Billings West High School. She attended Eastern Montana University for two years and was a member of the gymnastics team. She transferred to Montana State University (Missoula) where she met her future husband, Mike. She earned a bachelor’s in social work with a minor in Spanish in December 1965. After graduating, she worked as a social worker on the Flathead Indian Reservation.

In September of 1966 she moved to Orleans, France. In October of 1966 she married Michael A. Rose at the U.S. Army Chapel in Orleans, France. While in Orleans, she worked as a secretary at the military post. In 1967, Mike was transferred to Zirndorf, Germany where they stayed for the remainder of his service. They spent their leave time traveling around Europe.

After Mike was released from the service, he and Ginny came back to Missoula. In 1970, they moved to Minnesota. In 1971, they moved to Nashua and settled Corvallis in 1972. Ginny taught English to Hmong refugees, Spanish to home school students, spent 13 years as a paraprofessional teaching math for Hamilton schools and was active in her church.

Ginny was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband Mike of Corvallis, sister Carol Maxson of Marianna, Florida, four children, Dan (Mandi) Rose of Libby, Chantel (Scott) Campbell of Chandler, Arizona, Chris (Laci) Rose of Corvallis and Tim (Cedar) Rose of Missoula, granddaughters Kira, Tiana, Kairi, Gabi, Dani and Lennon, grandsons Nicholas, Aidan, Liam, and Kaiden, a nephew and three nieces. Her most important lesson to her kids and grandkids was to always BE KIND.

Ginny wanted to thank all of her doctors and nurses for their care, especially the ICU nurses for their compassion and care in her final days.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. Francis Parish in Hamilton. Urn placement will follow at Corvallis Cemetery followed by a reception at the Corvallis United Methodist Church.

The family suggests memorials to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to Special Olympics Montana.
