Winfred Allen Kimp, “Wimp” of Hamilton, On Monday July 19, loving father of four children, seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren peacefully passed away at The Hamilton Assisted Living Center in Hamilton Montana after living to be nearly 86 years old.

Wimp was born on August 29, 1935, in a home at Allen, Oklahoma in the middle of the great depression, to Furman Allen Kimp and Pauline Lee Montgomery. He Grew up in the oil fields of Oklahoma where his father was a roustabout, and a gang pusher for the Sun Ray Oil Company. He graduated from high school in Calvin Oklahoma in 1955. The family then Moved several times back-and-forth from Oklahoma to California, where Wimp and his brother opened their own auto body repair shop at the age of 22. 

Wimp was a big man with a big a passion for the outdoor life that led him to move his family to Montana in 1964. He landed a job at the local auto dealership, then later opening his auto body repair shop, Wimps Body Works, inc. where he also sold snowmobiles. He operated this Business for 17 years before deciding that 35 years in the auto repair business was long enough. At age 52, he sold the shop to his son, which gave him the opportunity to live out his dream building hill climbing snowmobiles called the Wompus Cat. He also developed a plastic ski skin that then led to the full production of the plastic snowmobile ski. What he did for the snowmobile industry was well renowned in northwest America and Canada. Wimp loved to fly his airplane around the great outdoors of Montana, He enjoyed packing horses into the back country wilderness, hunting, fishing, he often bird hunted Eastern Montana, and fished the coastal rivers of Canada.

Wimp had a huge heart and was everyone’s friend, he will be missed dearly by many of us. He was an intelligent, industrious, and hard-working man that would do anyone a favor.

Wimp was preceded in death by his father, Furman Allen, his mother, Pauline Lee, older brother, Roy, younger brother, Kenneth, and sister, Mary Joan.

He is survived by his little brother, Billy; his sons, Tom and Mark; daughters, Carrie Lynn, and Ronnie Lynn; seven grandchildren along with seven great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 31 at 12 o’clock noon at Mountain View Wesleyan Church, 185 Golf Course Rd., Hamilton, MT 59840 a reception to follow the service on Skalkaho Road at the Skalkaho steakhouse, where a sandwich buffet will be served for lunch, friends and family please join to reminisce and celebrate a Big Man who lived a Big life.  Wimp
